Jordan in 7 days

The best of the country, in a week

In Jordan, 7 days They fly by, but they can be enough to discover the most important destinations in the country. At least, if you trust our agency and choose a circuit like this, lasting a week. In that time, we will travel to Petra, the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum and other places of great beauty, using a comfortable vehicle and first quality services in terms of accommodation and assistance. Take a look at this proposal and you will see what to go through Jordan in 7 days is an option at your fingertips.

Famous destinations and others not so well known, in a week

When one thinks of Jordan, Petra certainly comes to mind. And this is one of the great destinations of this circuit, to which we dedicate a full day. Many will know him for his appearance in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. But in addition, it is one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World and one of the World Heritage Sites that UNESCO has recognized in this country.

This distinction also has another of the destinations of this circuit of Jordan in 7 days: the desert of Wadi Rum, which for many travelers is famous for being linked to T.E. Lawrence, immortalized in the Oscar-winning Lawrence of Arabia. In addition, it is one of the great claims used by the Jordanian tourism authorities to publicize the country abroad.

However, during these 7 days in Jordan There will be time to discover other lesser-known, but no less interesting destinations. Mount Nebo and Madaba will be for travelers more interested in religion. Ajloun Castle and Karak Castle will attract the attention of lovers of medieval history and the Crusades. And both Jerash and Amman will captivate lovers of antiquity, as they preserve spectacular Roman monuments.

7 days in Jordan to know its contrast of landscapes

In addition to the cities and monuments mentioned, during the 7 days in Jordan You will be able to appreciate the great contrast of landscapes that occurs in this country. Of course, the desert is the predominant environment in most of the territory, almost always of a stony character, but with some sand dunes in places like Wadi Rum. Here and elsewhere, nature has created rock formations that seem more like a fairy tale.

Very different will be what your eyes see in the north, specifically in the surroundings of Ajloun, where a nature reserve of undulating relief and green color extends, with fauna and flora of Mediterranean character. Pistachio, strawberry tree and carob trees are some examples that make up a postcard similar to that of many places in southern Europe.

But you certainly won’t be able to see anything like the Dead Sea anywhere else. This lake offers a unique atmosphere at the foot of the mountains that give way to the Jordanian Highlands, which you must also appreciate with other senses different from the view. For example, you can smell and come into contact with waters of extreme salinity that allow the bather to float, and with mineral-rich sludge, used in cosmetic treatments. And everything is wrapped in a special atmosphere because it is the lowest point on the planet: about -400 meters above sea level.

Day 2: Amman - Ajloun - Jerash - Amman

The second of 7 days in Jordan It is, in fact, the first in terms of tourist visits. And it will take us to the north of the country as an excursion, after having breakfast at the hotel.

The first of these visits will be dedicated to the castle of Ajloun. It is a fortress of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries not only interesting for its history (built and rebuilt by the Ayyubids of Saladin and the Mamluks, respectively) and for its walled architecture, but also for its location: it is on top of a mountain, about 1,250 meters above sea level, from where it is possible to enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding green landscape.

The next visit of the day is the nearby city of Jerash, known for its magnificent Roman monumental complex. Gerasa, as it was called in Antiquity, was one of the main cities of the Decapolis, embellished with temples (Aphrodite, Zeus), theaters, a triumphal arch, a circus or hippodrome and a square that served as a forum (Oval Square). All this distributed around the classic scheme of thistle and decumanus, typical of Roman urbanism.

After these two excursions to the north, we will return to Amman to spend the last stretch of the day here. And it will also be the best time to take a free tour of the city, perhaps to make purchases or other plans, since the next morning we will leave the capital and we will not return again in this circuit of Jordan in 7 days. Dinner, in any case, is included at tonight’s hotel in Amman.

  • Breakfast at hotel in Amman
  • Road trip to:
    • Ajloun Castle
    • Roman city of Jerash
  • Return to Amman and free time
  • Dinner and overnight at hotel in Amman

Day 3: Amman - Madaba - Mount Nebo - Karak - Petra

The road awaits us again on this third day to head south. But before that and after breakfast at the hotel, an unavoidable panoramic tour of Amman is pending: we will visit the most iconic places of the capital, which sinks its origins several millennia ago and preserves interesting monuments such as the Roman Theater, a monumental vestige of the time when this city was called Philadelphia.

The civilization that took over from the Romans was the Byzantine, and at the next stop on the route we will know one of its great artistic treasures: the mosaic map of the Holy Land, located in the Orthodox church of St. George, in the nearby city of Madaba. It is surprising to see how in the sixth century such a wide territory, stretching from Jerusalem to Mount Sinai, from the Nile Delta to the Dead Sea, was represented on the basis of tiny tesserae on the ground.

After leaving Madaba, we will visit a nearby and sacred place for Jews, Christians and Muslims: Mount Nebo. From this mountain, high above the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, Moses saw the Promised Land, which was denied him. The church, the monuments and the viewpoint located here allow us to imagine what the episode was like and what the landscape he contemplated with his eyes was like, including the city of Jerusalem on the horizon of the clearest days.

The route will then continue until you reach Karak. At the top of this city (which by the way is already represented on the mosaic map of Madaba) stands today an imposing castle built by the Crusaders in the twelfth century. As we will see during the visit, it was later conquered by Saladin and his troops, but it remains an extraordinary example of that novelesque period of Jordanian history.

And among echoes of stories of ancient religious warriors we will continue our route until we reach Petra. Or rather, to Wadi Musa, the town located at the gates of Petra, where all the hotels are located, including ours. In it awaits dinner and the well-deserved night’s rest.

  • Breakfast at hotel in Amman
  • Road route:
    • Madaba: visit of the church of St. George with its Byzantine mosaic map
    • Mount Nebo: visit of the enclosure and viewpoint
    • Karak: visit of the Crusader castle
  • Arrival in Wadi Musa (Petra)
  • Dinner and overnight at hotel in Wadi Musa (Petra)

Day 4: Petra

On this 7-day Jordan tour, we dedicate one entirely to Petra, the ‘pink city’ that was the capital of the Nabataean empire and that still today continues to captivate all its visitors. There is a lot to see during the day, so breakfast at the hotel should provide energy for the following hours.

From the Visitor Center we will start our tour, which will be more agile and comfortable thanks to the horse service included in the visit. In this way, it will take less time to travel the Siq, a spectacular canyon of about 2 km that flows into the Treasury. That is the name by which the most famous space in Petra is known, thanks to its elegant colonnaded façade topped by pediment.

But Petra is much more than that, and we’ll see it next. The Street of the Façades, the theater, the royal tombs, the temples of Nabataean gods, the remains of the Roman city with its Colonnaded Street in the center… And after climbing more than 800 steps, the Al Deir Monastery, of similar beauty to the Treasury but with views of the surroundings simply spectacular.

Undoubtedly, an intense but unforgettable day, which will make you enjoy even more dinner and the rest that the Wadi Musa hotel will provide you at night.

  • Breakfast of hotel in Wadi Musa (Petra)
  • Full-day visit in Petra
  • Dinner and overnight at hotel in Wadi Musa

Day 5: Petra - Little Petra - Wadi Rum

On this fifth day, after breakfast, we will make a very interesting excursion to complete our knowledge about Petra: we will go to the nearby Al Beida, where the so-called Little Petra is. It is, as its name suggests, a settlement similar to the Nabataean city but on a smaller scale, perhaps because it was a caravanserai or locality that gave it logistical service. It is articulated around rocky canyons and has numerous structures carved in stone, which give it a very picturesque and suggestive appearance.

This excursion to Little Petra will serve to open our mouths about what follows: Wadi Rum, another of the highlights of this circuit of Jordan in 7 days. To him we will travel by road… and beyond, because inside this nature reserve there comes a time when the asphalt ends. But at that moment we will get on a 4×4 SUV to continue along tracks and dunes for 2 hours, discovering the rock formations so characteristic of this desert.

The last hours of this day will not be like the others: we will remain in the reserve in a Bedouin camp to spend the night as the desert nomads have done for centuries, but in this case with all the necessary comfort to rest peacefully. Before that moment arrives, we will have had time for dinner and to delight ourselves with the last lights of the day, which dye the environment of a magical sunset, giving way later to a starry sky no less fabulous.

  • Breakfast of hotel in Wadi Musa (Petra)
  • Little Petra Tour
  • Road trip to Wadi Rum
    • 2-hour 4×4 desert route
  • Dinner and overnight at Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum

Day 6: Wadi Rum - Dead Sea

Every night is followed by its corresponding sunrise. But here, in Wadi Rum, it will not be one more: it will be the most beautiful of this circuit for Jordan in 7 days And, probably, one of the most beautiful you remember. For the warm lights that are dyeing the desert and the sky, but also for the feeling of silence and peace that is breathed. A magnificent atmosphere to enjoy breakfast, which will be taken at the Bedouin camp.

After that and at the agreed time, we will return to the road in our usual vehicle to head to another place that is unparalleled: the Dead Sea. This is because of its negative altitude (it is the lowest point on the planet) and its extraordinarily salty waters. This allows the bather to float without difficulty and makes the mud of this lake a highly coveted raw material to make cosmetic products.

From the moment we reach the Dead Sea, time will be free, so you can dedicate it to a bath, an aesthetic treatment or a cultural visit to the environment. In any case, tonight’s dinner is included in the half board of the hotel, which will be located on the shores of the Dead Sea.

  • Sunrise and breakfast at Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum
  • Road trip to the Dead Sea
  • Rest of the day at the Dead Sea
  • Dinner and overnight at hotel at the Dead Sea

Day 7: Dead Sea - Amman Airport

The last of these 7 days in Jordan is booked for transfer to Queen Alia Amman International Airport. And for this, it will not be necessary to go through Amman, but it will be done directly from the Dead Sea hotel, at the agreed time and after having breakfast. We will arrive with enough time for check-in and our staff will provide you with the last assistance you may need in the terminal. That will be when we say goodbye, with total gratitude for the trust placed.

  • Breakfast at hotel in the Dead Sea
  • Transfer by private chauffeured vehicle to Queen Alia Amman International Airport
  • Assistance and farewell
