Playing golf in Jordan is an option available to its citizens and, especially, to those visiting the country, as it is conceived as an excellent complement to a premium travel itinerary. In this post, we tell you which courses are available in the country so you can consider integrating a round or a session into your program.
The State of Golf in Jordan
It is true that golf in Jordan is not the most popular sport, and the country is not a global reference, neither in terms of the number of players nor the variety of its courses. As we will see below, it only has two such facilities in the entire country, and the first of them opened as late as 2017.
However, from a tourism perspective, it is an activity that avid golfers may appreciate. The two existing options offer more than sufficient quality in terms of their greens and facilities, with amenities and complementary services to create a most entertaining day of sports leisure.
Ayla Club in Aqaba: The Best Option
Undoubtedly, among all the golf courses in Jordan, the Ayla Club is the best and most complete, partly because it is currently the only one with 18 holes. It is located in the coastal city of Aqaba and has positioned itself as a clear complementary attraction for premium tourists staying at its resorts. It opened in 2017 and, at that time, was presented as the largest golf course in the entire Middle East, with a total area of 800,000 m2. It was designed by architect Greg Norman and has achieved milestones and recognitions since 2017, such as being the most sustainable golf course in the region. Furthermore, it hosts numerous national and international tournaments.
In fact, it is part of one of the city’s most prestigious tourist complexes, the Marina Village, located on the beachfront and featuring its own artificial lagoon with a marina.
In addition to spectacular holiday villas on the premises, it also boasts its own hotel and numerous leisure and dining areas. In reality, it benefits from its privileged location in Ayla, the resort district of Aqaba, ensuring a rich program of events, such as concerts and water activities.
Amman Golf Club: The Capital’s Option
As might be expected, the country’s capital also has its own golf course: the Amman Golf Club. However, in this case, it is more of a facility designed for Jordanians themselves, as it is a 9-hole course. In fact, its true essence is its academy: this is where everyone who wants to learn to play golf in Jordan is trained, with a driving range equipped with a teeing area and greens to practice all possible shots.
To complement these practice sessions, the facilities include a Lounge Club for relaxed refreshments, a children’s area for the little ones to enjoy while their parents play their favorite sport, and a professional equipment store.
Finally, a brief mention should be made of the Bisharat Golf Club which, despite its name, is not exactly a golf club in the traditional sense: it is a multi-purpose facility that has a driving range and a 9-hole course, but is actually used for all kinds of events and sports, from an outdoor concert venue to a camping area. Its holes, moreover, are not notable for their lush grass and greenery, but rather it is a dry course with abundant sand, providing a rawer and wilder playing experience.
