The Ajloun Cable Car, in northern Jordan, has become one of the great tourist attractions of this city and its region. In this post we tell you the fundamental details of this infrastructure and also the attractions associated with it, since it is not only an experience in itself, but also a means that brings the traveler closer to other points of interest.
Cable car route and distance
The Ajloun cable car is a modern means of transport with aerial cable cars, which has two stations, one at each end. One of them is located at the foot of
The cable car was built in 2020 by the prestigious Austrian company Doppelmayr Garaventa Group, with extensive experience in the sector, and its cabins are state-of-the-art: glazed on all sides to favor a 360º view throughout the journey. The cabins have a capacity of 8 passengers each, and the system includes about 40 cabins, so it can accommodate a passenger volume of close to a thousand per hour.
However, since it is a relatively recent infrastructure, it is a little-known cable car, so there are usually no large crowds to enjoy it. The price for a non-Jordanian passenger is about 10 JD, although this price may vary.
What can you see?
As in all cable cars in the world, its great attraction is the panoramic views it offers throughout the journey, with an elevated view at all times. In this case, the landscape that the traveler enjoys from a bird’s eye view is dominated by the gentle green hills around Ajloun, which is the Jordanian region with the most Mediterranean climate.
Here, there is a large concentration of native trees of temperate climates, such as kermes oaks (or Palestine oak), strawberry trees, pistachios or carob trees. From above you can also see small groups of houses and orchards, which show the peaceful pace of life that prevails in this region, still closely linked to primary activities such as agriculture. Without a doubt, a landscape that will surprise many travelers, as it is so different from the one that reigns in other tourist areas of the country, which are more arid and rocky.
Associated services and plans
The Ajloun cable car is also a means to get closer to other attractions in the region. For example, its station furthest from the city is, on the other hand, quite close to the Ajloun Forest Reserve, where you can learn about the variety of flora mentioned above and where ecological tourism linked to nature is being promoted.
Similarly, the peripheral station is located near Tell Mar Elias, a hill where there are archaeological remains of great value: those that according to tradition are associated with the birthplace and residence of the prophet Elijah, venerated by both Jews and Christians and Muslims.
And of course, the highest station is located next to Ajloun Castle, so this cable car is very close to any traveler before or after visiting this historic place, essential for any tourist.
In addition, this upper station houses other leisure spaces and services for travelers, such as a cafeteria, restaurant, children’s play area and souvenir shop.
