How to Travel to Jordan from Peru: Flights and Visa

Traveling to Jordan from Peru is something many people desire, especially lovers of history and culture: both countries have enormous archaeological and monumental wealth, which has been valued in recent decades thanks to tourism. Machu Picchu and Petra, the coastal desert and Wadi Rum, Lake Titicaca and the Dead Sea, Lima and Amman, Cuzco-Saqsaywaman and Jerash… The parallels are surprising in these two territories full of World Heritage. So if you are one of those people eager to travel to this Hashemite kingdom to discover its attractions, take note of the information we give you in this article about flights and visas.

Flights from Peru to Jordan

Given the distance between both countries, there are no direct flights between Peru and Jordan. Therefore, all routes involve at least one layover at an intermediate airport. The fastest route is the one that takes off from the Jorge Pérez International Airport in Lima and lands at the Queen Alia Amman International Airport, with a layover at a European airport, such as Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez or Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

In this way, the outbound journey can be less than 20 hours, although the return usually involves at least 26 hours. The companies you can use for this combination of flights are Iberia, Air France, Royal Jordanian, and LATAM Airlines, mainly. It is also the most expensive option, as the round trip rarely costs less than 10,000 soles.

On the other hand, using two or even three layovers can reduce the cost of the journey. In this way, other airlines enter the equation, such as the North American Delta or United, those from the Middle East such as Turkish Airlines or Qatar Airways, or the European ones such as Lufthansa or British Airways. The most common arrival airport is the capital’s (Queen Alia Amman), but with this option, you can also consider the country’s second airport (Aqaba King Hussein).

The disadvantage of this option is the duration, as they are usually journeys of at least 26 or 27 hours, both for the outbound and return journeys. However, that extra time may compensate considering that, in this way, much more affordable prices appear, sometimes from 5,000 soles.

Visas for Peruvians in Jordan

As with most Latin American citizens (Argentinians, Chileans, Brazilians…), Peruvian travelers have to get a visa to enter Jordan. But it is not a typical visa, but the so-called Jordan Pass, which is more of an ‘entry ticket’ to the country, since it is not necessary to carry out extraordinary bureaucratic procedures: it is enough to have a valid passport, provide personal data to the country’s authorities, and pay the fee for said Jordan Pass: prices range from 70 to 80 dinars, depending on the number of days you are going to visit Petra, and also includes entry to other monuments or visitable sites in Jordan.

This Jordan Pass can be purchased at the airport upon arrival, either at Amman Queen Alia or Aqaba King Hussein. But we recommend buying it online before leaving to avoid inconveniences or delays. The official website is https://www.jordanpass.jo/ and will allow you to download this pass to your smartphone.

And to be able to move safely around the country, sleep comfortably, and admire the beauty of each destination, we recommend using an experienced local agency, such as Jordan Exclusive: we will plan your trips, accommodations, and guided tours to make the most of your travel days.
