The Children’s Museum in Amman: A Family-Friendly Option

The Children’s Museum in Amman is an interesting option for those traveling with young children (ideally, under 12 years old), as it is a venue with a multitude of spaces dedicated to interactive and fun learning. In the following lines, we explain in more detail what you will find there.

Museum Areas

The Children’s Museum in Amman spans 8,500 square meters and is divided into different spaces, all within a covered, open-plan facility (except for its upper floor, which is an outdoor park area), making it very easy to move from one area to another. Most are general knowledge spaces, covering areas of learning or daily life. However, it also features some spaces closely related to Jordan.

Spaces about Jordan

From the perspective of a foreign family visiting Jordan, these are the most interesting spaces. Immersing oneself in them is an engaging way to learn about some key aspects of the country, especially those related to nature.

One of these spaces is called Biodiversity in Jordan, where an interactive overview of local flora and fauna is presented, with special mention of birds, of which there are life-sized reproductions.

This area also features a specific section on the Great Rift Valley, the major fracture in the Earth’s crust where Jordan is located, which influences everything from topography to geology, such as the very existence of the Dead Sea. Precisely here, there are also panels and explanatory spaces about the geological diversity and the formation of the rocks present in the country.

More General Spaces

Beyond these Jordanian-themed spaces, the museum is designed as a playful place where children can learn about different areas of knowledge and daily life. For this reason, there are child-friendly recreations of a supermarket, a bank office, a repair shop, or means of transport like an airplane, whose cockpit they can access.

Among the young visitors’ favorite spaces are those dedicated to computing and telecommunications, as well as those dedicated to human anatomy, physics, or chemistry, where they experimentally learn basic concepts such as magnetism.

But without a doubt, the most evocative space is the small planetarium: a darkened structure with a faithful recreation of the starry sky and planets projected onto its ceiling, which also serves as a reminder of the quality of the sky in the Jordanian desert, especially in places like Wadi Rum, where observation activities are carried out.

Outdoors, the little ones will find miniature recreations of some famous monuments worldwide, such as the Pyramids of Egypt, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or, of course, the Treasury of Petra.
